How Koi Daily works
Koi Daily (天天好运, “good luck every day”) blends two traditions with deep respect: BaZi (八字), the Chinese Four Pillars system rooted in over 2,000 years of Five Elements philosophy, and Western astrology. The koi fish, our namesake, is East Asia's beloved symbol of perseverance and good fortune.
What is BaZi and the Five Elements?
BaZi (八字, “eight characters”) is a traditional Chinese system that maps a person's birth moment onto the cycles of five elements — Wood (木), Fire (火), Earth (土), Metal (金), and Water (水). Your birth date determines your day master: your personal element. Every calendar day also carries its own element, following the ancient stem-and-branch (干支) cycle.
The relationship between your element and today's element — nourishing, matching, or challenging — is what shapes your Koi Daily reading. Colors, fabrics, and materials each belong to an element, which is how a reading becomes an outfit: wearing your supportive element's colors is traditionally believed to align your energy with the day.
